Inside this topic students will be asked to identify meaningful goals using personal reflection, celebrating success, and learning to challenge themselves.
Living their faith: students will need to be encouraged to understand how they can identify, deliver and live their beliefs and be respectful of other people’s points of view.
This topic focuses on the 3 Fs: Faith, Family and Friends. Students will learn to identify how to B.I.Y (Believe In Yourself) as they follow the teachings, words and actions of Jesus.
This topic gives students a chance to dig deep and think about their talents, gifts and passions and effectively share them with others without compromising their own beliefs.
Students will be asked to reflect on the statement ‘attitude is a choice’. In this topic they will consider their own attitude: how it fluctuates and how it affects other people.
Jesus, through his leadership and teaching, found effective ways to solve problems. By using his example and prayer, students will clarify quicker, better ways to tackle the maze of problems they face as teenagers. They will discover that they all have the capability of building a solution to anything if they cultivate an ‘I can solve this’ attitude/habit.
Peter was instructed by Jesus to be the ‘Rock’ that the Christian Church on earth would be built upon. We will identify that Peter made mistakes but still achieved so much in a relatively short time – just over 2000 years. We need to realise that the act of setting and achieving goals takes practice, constant reflection and a powerful never give up attitude.
Jesus knew and embraced his Father’s plan on earth and overcame many obstacles to achieve his goal. Students will explore his time on earth and discover that Grit is more than just resilience. They will become aware of the term ‘Grit’ and what it can achieve.
Jesus completely comprehended and continually demonstrated his thorough understanding of grief (e.g. Lazarus, Mary His Mother) during His life on earth. Help students understand that grief is a natural (and often a necessary) way of dealing with loss.
During Jesus’ time on earth, many people appreciated what he did for them. Help students to identify moments when they need to get into the habit of thanking and appreciating what is done for them. The act of gratitude is a habit to foster and cultivate.
Jesus spoke to everyone – from high priests to the marginalised – and managed to convey his message. Today his message resonates with people from all walks of life and different cultures. Following in his footsteps, students will learn to cultivate and nurture an understanding of the power of effective G.T.S. We will prove and discuss that when they greet, treat and speak to people, it can open positive doors for them and/or help others with their day.
Do we just take, take and take? Through this lesson students will look to identify and appreciate the little things in life and learn to give thanks – especially when we compare what we have to what others don’t have. A major learning intention is to discover ‘Why do we need to give to others? What does it give to us?’
God sent His only Son to save us. Many follow in his footsteps and He didn’t ask for much for the great things he achieved. Help your students discover the act of being humble – a necessary skill to learn – and to be aware of the plight of others rather than just focusing on their own talents and achievements.
Teach your students to take the time to reflect on the acronym G.A.T.E. We all need reminding about creating ‘G.A.T.E.’ habits (G-Grateful, A–Appreciation, T–Thankful, E–Enthusiastic). Ask your students. ‘when was the last time they thanked people at home for cooking dinner, driving you to school/sports or when did you say ‘Great lesson’ to their teacher?’
Learning to ask the question ‘What’s Good and/or Important for You?’ and answering it honestly — this is a unique skill. To get the students and teacher to explore feedback from Mission Australia’s annual teenage survey.
Jesus’ heart was pure and he can live in your heart if you want him to. We need to look at what this means for your actions/thoughts/words etc. We need to understand that the heart is more than just a human organ.
Jesus was the epitome of kindness e.g. helping children, sick etc. The intention is to be inspired by his actions then explore how we can discover that kindness creates more kindness.
Christian values come from Jesus Christ. We need to identify the many positive values he had or taught about whilst on earth. Through discussion on the ‘virtues’, we will create a better understanding of values.
We are made in the image of God and Jesus was respect personified. Using Jesus as our model, students will need to understand and discern his message of respect and replicate it in what they do.
Jesus used parables as a means of getting his message across. He also listened to those around him without judgement. This topic explores learning to not judge. It specifically identifies etiquette and manners when using a mobile phone.
To explore what students think about their BIG ideas for this world and articulate them to the class.
Many followers of Jesus and his message, have and still continue to do, amazing things to help those who need it. The students will identify those in need, discover organisations that appeal to them, and then find a way to help others. To understand that many people and organisations do incredible things to help the marginalised.
Students will explore what virtues are and how they can help assist in being a productive, caring individual. The students will discuss the effects and learn the positives and negatives social media may have on their lives.
This topic explores the term ‘mental illness’ and the way mental health patients are often treated in our society. It also focuses on ‘mental health’ and its connection to ‘physical health’.
We were made in the image of God. There is a need to work through our own perceptions – maybe they are incorrect! This topic looks at improving the understanding of ‘Body Image’ is a natural and important part of growing up.
Reflection – we’re not talking about looking in a mirror but talking about looking inside ourselves. The message of Jesus helps us to positively reflect. Developing this skill will really improve our lives and those around us!
As Jesus carried his cross, he took one step at the time but needed help from Simon Peter to carry the cross. To understand that ‘hard work works’. Identify steps that help reach your goals.
Many people have shown extraordinary mental toughness. Ask students to identify strategies that ‘mentally strong people’ use to help them succeed. This topic explores the idea that when something is hard/unfair, it takes practice and mental toughness to not give up. Students can choose a mental toughness quality to focus on and to try and cultivate in their own lives.
Jesus was in the desert for 40 nights, and when he took the three disciples to pray in the Garden of Gethsemane before his arrest, they kept falling asleep. With God looking over us, we are never alone. To get students to understand that no matter how bad things seem, you can still [and must] reach out for help.
To discover, through research, reflection and discussions, the qualities of a person who inspires or is a hero.
